Mark Loon is a Professor and Dean of the School of Business and Creative Industries at the University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia, and a Visiting Professor at the University of Northumbria, Newcastle. He holds advanced degrees including a PhD and DBA from Newcastle University, an MBA in Finance from Nottingham Trent University, a PGCHE from Gloucestershire University, and a BABA from Ottawa University.

His research focuses on business models, innovation, strategic capabilities, learning and development, and practice theory. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles and books in top-tier journals such as the Academy of Management Learning and Education and Journal of Management Studies.
Loon has received prestigious awards, including the BAM Medal for Knowledge Development (2022), the 2017 Emerald Literati Network Award, and fellowships from the Chartered Management Institute and Higher Education Academy.
He has led significant grants, including the Flexible Learning Literature Review (Advance HE, 2021) and the Autoethnography Research project (Royal Navy UK, 2019–2020). His consulting experience spans industries like finance, telecommunications, and government, with clients including Ernst & Young and Transport for NSW.
Loon has advised on doctoral programs globally and supervised 14 PhD candidates. He chairs committees like the British Standards Institute’s Human Capital Standards Committee and is a non-executive member of RICS’ CPD Framework Steering Group.
