Mark Dunne is a Visiting Senior Lecturer at the School of Optometry, College of Health and Life Sciences, Aston University. His research focuses on developing digital learning platforms (MyDLP) for optometry education, integrating machine learning with Bayesian decision-making systems. He also explores Orange Data Mining tools for clinical applications. Dunne has been recognized with the 2019 Dr. Lester Janoff Award for his article on virtual patient instruction in Optometric Education.
Education: BSc Zoology (Bangor University, 1980–1983), PhD in Optometry (Aston University, 1983–1987). Teaching includes undergraduate modules (Clinical Visual Biology, Ophthalmic Lenses) and postgraduate research methods courses.
Research Interests: Machine learning in clinical decision support, optometry education technology, and Bayesian analysis of ocular conditions like glaucoma. His work bridges data science and healthcare, emphasizing translational learning frameworks for clinicians.
Recent publications span topics like myopia progression analysis, macular damage detection via machine learning, and comparative planetary geology using AI. Collaborations include interdisciplinary projects with biomedical engineers and data scientists.
Professional Contributions: Supervised 15+ student works, advised on clinical compliance metrics, and pioneered the integration of Orange Data Mining in optometric diagnostics.
