Rachel Casemore is a Lecturer in Optometry at Aston University's School of Optometry within the College of Health and Life Sciences. With over 25 years of optometric practice experience, she serves as a clinical supervisor for optometry programs since 2019 and holds Associate Fellow status with the Higher Education Academy. Her PhD (2024) focused on biomarkers of dry eye disease, advancing her research on evaporative dry eye pathogenesis, lifestyle factors, and molecular biomarkers.
Education:
- BSc in Ophthalmic Optics (1989–1992)
- PhD in Biomarkers of Dry Eye Disease (Aston University, 2020–2024)
- AFHEA Teaching Qualification (2022–2023)
- Professional Certificate in Glaucoma (2018–2019)
- Diploma in Therapeutic Prescribing (2014–2016)
Research Focus: Prioritizes translational research in ocular surface diseases, particularly dry eye mechanisms. Combines clinical observations with molecular analyses to identify early-stage biomarkers and lifestyle influences. Active in optimizing diagnostic techniques via microfluidic systems and improving optometric clinical practices through evidence-based guidelines.
Recognition: Supervised a notable doctoral thesis on dry eye biomarkers, with work highlighted in 13 news outlets and Mendeley readership. Research emphasizes collaboration with institutions like the University of Tromsø (Norway) and industry partners.
