معرفی
Prof. Gary Misson is a Professor of Ophthalmology at Aston University’s College of Health and Life Sciences and a practicing Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust. He holds a PhD in bio-optical engineering and has dual expertise in clinical ophthalmology and biomedical research. His academic roles include teaching in human anatomy, clinical ophthalmology, and biomedical engineering.
Education: He earned a BSc in Physiology and Pharmacology from the University of London (1980), MBBS from Charing Cross Westminster Med. Sch. (1983), PhD from the University of Warwick (2013), and holds professional qualifications like FRCOphth and FRCS.
Research focuses on linking theoretical models to clinical applications in ophthalmic diagnostics. Key areas include polarization perception (e.g., Haidinger’s brushes), macular disease mechanisms, and applications of machine learning in detecting macular damage. His work bridges visual psychophysics, retinal physiology, and optical engineering.
Recent articles emphasize polarization patterns in macular diagnostics, macular pigment contributions to visual phenomena, and historical perspectives on polarization perception. He collaborates widely, with interests in clinical applications of polarization-based techniques.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Optometry & Vision Science Research Group (OVSRG) at Aston University, focusing on translational ophthalmic research. His work integrates clinical practice with engineering innovations in eye care.
