Mark Doerries is an Associate Professor of the Practice in Conducting at the University of Notre Dame, where he heads the Graduate Choral Conducting Studio and serves as Artistic Director of the Notre Dame Children's Choir, Children’s Organ Training Program, and the Sacred Music Academy. His work bridges choral conducting, sacred music, and multi-sensory artistic innovation.
Research interests include choral conducting pedagogy, sacred music traditions, and multi-sensory music projects such as the Luminescence Project, which integrates vocal performance with light-art installations. His creative output spans collaborations with jazz artists, liturgical recordings, and commissioning new works for choirs.
Doerries has received significant funding, including a $1.6 million Lilly Endowment Grant and a $500,000 Presidential Circle Award. He has been honored as a 40 Under 40 leader in the South Bend region for his academic and community contributions.
His career includes prior roles as Director of Choral and Vocal Music at Olney Central College and Music Director at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church. He has performed internationally at venues such as Walt Disney Concert Hall and Meyerson Symphony Center, leading tours through major cathedrals in the U.S. and U.K.
