Dr. Mark Condos is a Senior Lecturer in Imperial and Global History at King's College London, affiliated with the Department of War Studies within the School of Security Studies, Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. He co-directs the Sir Michael Howard Centre for the History of War, focusing on violence, race, and law in British and French Empires, particularly in India and Algeria.
Education: BA and MA from Queen’s University (Canada), PhD in History from the University of Cambridge (2013). Prior roles include a Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellowship at Queen Mary, University of London (2014–2017), and Lecturer in Imperial and Global History at Queen Mary (2017–2020).
Research interests include colonial state-building in Punjab, frontier governance, and imperial legal frameworks. Current projects explore cross-imperial policing and the justifications for retributive violence. His work highlights colonial anxieties shaping authoritarian practices and legal discourses.
Notable publications include The Insecurity State: Punjab and the Making of Colonial Power in British India, 1849–1935 (2017). Awards include the Leverhulme Fellowship. His research often intersects with contemporary debates on terrorism and colonial legacies.
