Anna Maguire is a Lecturer in Public History at University College London (UCL). Her research focuses on migration, war, and empire in twentieth-century Britain and the British Empire. She is currently researching the history of sanctuary for refugees in Britain between 1950 and 2000. Anna is also engaged in collaborative public history projects, including work with the Imperial War Museum and RefugeeHistory.org. She holds a PhD from King’s College London (2017) and is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and the Higher Education Academy.
Anna’s academic contributions include major publications such as Contact Zones of the First World War (CUP, 2021) and co-edited volumes on colonial encounters during World War I. Her work emphasizes marginalized histories, including the experiences of colonial soldiers and refugees. She has contributed to public engagement initiatives like the Teaching Empire and War project, which develops educational resources for schools.
