Jacob Smith

Jacob Smith is a Lecturer in Modern British History at the School of History, Queen Mary University of London. He specializes in British imperialism, colonial violence, and anti-colonial resistance, with a focus on 19th-century contexts. His doctoral research examined the aftermath of the 1857 Indian Mutiny, influencing imperial policy and colonial anxiety across the Anglosphere. Current projects explore retribution's role in imperial campaigns and its impact on public engagement and popular culture.

Smith teaches modules such as 'Unravelling Britain: British History since 1801' and 'Crime and Punishment in London,' and oversees the Dissertation Workshop and History Research Project. He also serves as the Third Year Writing Tutor.
