Mark Chandler is a Research Fellow at the Deborah L. Rhode Center on the Legal Profession at Stanford Law School. Previously, he served as Chief Legal Officer and Chief Compliance Officer of Cisco Systems from 2001 to 2021, overseeing global legal operations and innovation in legal automation. He holds a JD from Stanford Law School (1981) and a BA in Economics, Summa Cum Laude, from Harvard College (1978).
His research focuses on legal innovation, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance, with an emphasis on leveraging technology to enhance legal systems. Chandler has been recognized for his contributions to legal practice transformation, including awards from the National Law Journal and American Lawyer.
He sits on multiple boards, including the Dean’s Advisory Council of Stanford Law School, the American Bar Association Center for Innovation Governing Council, and Second Harvest of Silicon Valley. He previously taught as a Lecturer in Law at Stanford Law School in 2016 and held leadership roles in local and national policy organizations.
