Mark Batson is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music, where he teaches songwriting in the Popular Music Program. A multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning music producer and composer, he has collaborated with artists such as Eminem, Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Dave Matthews Band, and Nas across genres including hip hop, R&B, rock, jazz, and classical music. His career spans 130+ million album sales and groundbreaking multimedia projects.

His research and creative work focuses on cross-genre music production, fusion of classical and contemporary sounds, and multimedia storytelling through graphic novels and film scoring. Recent projects include reimagining Bach Suites with Yo-Yo Ma and producing for Grammy-winning albums.
Batson has received accolades including a Grammy for Alicia Keys' Hell's Kitchen musical theater album (2025), an Oscar for I, Tonya (2018), and a Golden Globe for HBO's Sharp Objects (2018). He also founded the media company One Unlimited Media and advocates for mental health through fundraising for the AAKOMA Project.
At USC, Batson mentors students in songwriting while balancing his global creative ventures, including a cosmic divinity film project with Black Thought, a civil war opera Born American, and the anthology American Made Monsters. He pioneered a hit song with Big Ocean, the first hearing-impaired K-pop group, demonstrating his commitment to innovation and inclusivity.
