Dr. Mark Asbridge is a Professor and Department Head in the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology at Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Medicine. His research focuses on addictions, public health policy, injury prevention, and road safety, with a special emphasis on substance use among youth. He holds the MADD Canada Professorship in Impaired Driving Research and Prevention, and has received awards including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research New Investigator Award and Network Centres of Excellence Post-doctoral Fellowship.
Dr. Asbridge earned his PhD, MA, and BA (Honours) from the University of Toronto. He teaches graduate courses in epidemiology and public health principles, as well as undergraduate courses on addiction sociology. His work spans cannabis-impaired driving, opioid prescribing practices, and vaping health impacts. Recent studies highlight his contributions to understanding substance use policy, traffic safety, and population health outcomes.
His research portfolio includes over 50 peer-reviewed articles, with recent emphases on cannabis legalization effects, opioid prescribing trends, and vaping-associated lung health. He collaborates with national organizations to inform evidence-based policies addressing substance use and injury prevention.
