Mark Akubo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Delaware, directing the Secondary Science Education and MS STEM Education Programs. He holds a B.Sc. (Ed) in Physics from the University of Abuja (Nigeria), and M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Florida State University, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Cornell University. His research focuses on small group discourses in physics education, equity in STEM, and science teacher preparation. He examines positioning dynamics, gender equity, and intersectional identity-responsive teaching practices in K-12 settings. Akubo teaches science teaching methods courses and leads initiatives at the Integrated Science Learning Lab (ISLL), emphasizing equitable pedagogies and student-centered learning.
Educations: B.Sc. (Ed) Physics (University of Abuja), M.Sc. and Ph.D. (Florida State University), Postdoctoral Research (Cornell University).
Research Interests:
- Equity in STEM Education
- Discourse Analysis in Science Labs
- Science Teacher Professional Development
- Identity Responsive Pedagogies
His publications analyze lab dynamics, student epistemic framing, and global student understanding of scientific inquiry.
