Mark A. Basinger, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Biology at Barton College, where he has taught since 2000. He specializes in plant ecology and environmental science, with expertise in vascular plants of the eastern United States. - Education: B.A. from University of North Carolina at Charlotte; M.S. and Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
Research Interests: Focuses on vascular plant inventories, ecological damage assessment in old-growth forests, and floristic projects. His work bridges plant systematics, forest ecology, and environmental conservation. Over 15 years of field experience with the Shawnee National Forest, emphasizing post-disturbance recovery dynamics.
Teaching: Leads courses such as Principles of Biology I/II, Organismal Biology, and field-based programs exploring North Carolina’s diverse ecosystems.
