Dr. Marjorie E. Madden is an Associate Professor at Rowan University's College of Education, affiliated with the Department of Reading. She holds a Ph.D. in Literacy from the University of Pennsylvania (2000) and has over 35 years of educational experience. Her roles include teaching early childhood literacy, clinical courses in undergraduate/graduate reading programs, and research seminars. She co-founded the Rowan Literacy Consortium (RLC), a program partnering 25 school districts to address literacy topics like Common Core writing and formative assessment. Globally, she has led teacher training initiatives in Guatemala since 2000, facilitated international conferences, and explored partnerships in Madagascar and Comoros. Alongside Dr. Valarie Lee, she pioneered a transnational writing initiative involving schools in Qatar, Guatemala, Madagascar, Vermont, California, and New Jersey.
Her educational background includes a doctorate focused on literacy, complemented by decades of practical school experience. Research interests span critical literacy, technology integration, multilingual education, and global education collaborations. She has mentored Rowan students and faculty in international exchanges, emphasizing cultural immersion and teacher development.
Dr. Madden’s contributions extend beyond academia through the RLC’s annual symposiums and international partnerships, fostering innovative approaches to literacy education worldwide.
