Marita Flisbäck is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Borås and Director of the Centre for Welfare Studies. She earned her doctorate in Sociology from the University of Gothenburg in 2006, with a thesis analyzing artistic career paths through class and gender lenses.

Her research focuses on the working life of the arts and culture sector, cultural entrepreneurship, recognition in low-status occupations, and the existential meaning of work in aging and retirement. She integrates feminist theory, cultural sociology, and existential perspectives into her analyses.
Current projects include "Ideals and Practices of Gender Equality Among Parents in Blue and White Collar Jobs" (funded by Forte) and "Hybrid Organisations as a Tool for Sustainable Development in the Countryside" (led by Marita Flisbäck, funded by Centre for Welfare Studies). She also contributed to the Swedish Research Council (VR)-funded project "Activation Strategies in Swedish Welfare Policy 1990-2015".
Marita Flisbäck’s work explores intersections of class, gender, and existential frameworks in welfare and labor studies, with a recent emphasis on rural sustainability and circular economy models as seen in initiatives like Uddebo, Tranemo municipality.
