Lina Palmér is an Associate Professor of Nursing Science at the University of Borås, affiliated with the Academy of Care, Working Life and Welfare and the Department of Care Sciences. She serves as Program Manager for the Midwifery Program, Subject Manager for Nursing Science, and Director of Studies for doctoral education in Humanity in Nursing and Nursing Science. Her academic leadership roles include chairing the research group on Existential Issues in Nursing and Learning Contexts.
Her research focuses on two core areas: 1) existential dimensions of care in healthcare and educational settings, particularly in midwifery and elderly care, and 2) methodological advancements in existential care science. Key themes include breastfeeding challenges, reproductive health, and intergenerational care. She pioneered Existential Nursing Science, emphasizing life-world hermeneutics and qualitative methodologies like thematic meaning analysis.
Dr. Palmér teaches health science, research methodology, and epistemology at undergraduate through doctoral levels. She leads the EU-funded INNOVATEDIGNITY project (2019–2023) under Horizon 2020, advancing sustainable elderly care across Europe. Collaborations span national institutions (e.g., Region Jönköping, University of Gothenburg) and international partners (e.g., University of Birmingham).
