Lina Palmqvist serves as a Senior Lecturer in occupational science with a focus on health and social care at the University of Borås, affiliated with the Academy of Care, Working Life and Welfare and the Department of Working Life and Welfare.
Her research program encompasses ethnographic studies of social positions and experiences, cultural and discursive representation, and societal institutions and their forms of governance. Dr. Palmqvist's work bridges multiple research fields including feminist theory, studies of neoliberalism/New Public Management, functional studies, care research, and social gerontology. She critically examines how social positions related to functional capacity, gender, class, age, and race/ethnicity intersect with experiences of aging and care.
Dr. Palmqvist teaches in Health and Care Administration, Leadership Training for Senior Care Managers, and the Master's Program in Sustainable Organization and Leadership in Health and Care. She also supervises and examines undergraduate and graduate degree theses.
Her doctoral research, completed at the University of Gothenburg in 2020, analyzed how neoliberal social development affects conditions of old age and care. Her recent publication explores agency and self-determination within disability support services, examining how professional practices and ethical dispositions shape user experiences within the Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments framework.
Lina Palmqvist completed her doctoral studies in gender studies at the University of Gothenburg in 2020 with the thesis 'Old age, care and power: the situation of the elderly and care relationships in neoliberal times,' which investigated older people's experiences of aging and elderly care through multiple intersecting social dimensions.
