Marit Ruitenberg is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Health, Medical and Neuropsychology, Leiden University, affiliated with the Leiden Institute for Brain and Cognition. Her research focuses on the interplay between dopamine neurotransmission, anxiety, and impulse control in Parkinson’s disease.
- Key Research: Identifying genetic and psychiatric risk factors for impulse control disorders in de novo Parkinson’s patients using dopamine genetic risk scores and longitudinal data from the Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) database.
- Methodology: Cox proportional hazards models to analyze interactions between trait anxiety, dopamine agonist use, and genetic profiles.
Recent Publications highlight her work on practice effects as predictors of cognitive decline and dopamine-ICD interactions. Collaborators include researchers from the University of Utah, University of Bergen, and University of Birmingham.
Contributions extend to understanding non-motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease, with implications for early screening and personalized treatment strategies.
