Marion Eggert is a Full Professor and Chair of Korean Studies at the Ruhr University Bochum. She has held this position since 1999, previously serving as Dean of the Faculty for East Asian Studies (2002-2005) and as a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard University's Korea Institute. Her research spans Korean and Chinese cultural intersections, focusing on intellectual history, literary traditions, and religious studies.

Her scholarship investigates Korean self-conceptualization through national identity and individual consciousness, Korean-Chinese cultural connections in literary and historical contexts, and Chosŏn-era intellectual history. She has published extensively on pre-modern Korean travel literature, sinic dream explications, and cross-cultural translation practices.
