Marina Bogush

Marina Bogush serves as an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences at Rowan University, actively contributing to the HHMI Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program.

Her research focuses on bacteriophage biology through undergraduate-driven discovery and genomic analysis, with core interests spanning Microbiology, Virology, Genomics, Bioinformatics, and Phage Biology. She integrates wet-lab techniques (using Arthrobacter globiformis as host) with computational genomics to advance evolutionary science education.

As primary instructor for multiple SEA-PHAGES sections, she has mentored 45+ undergraduates across Fall 2024–Spring 2025 semesters, with course structures including 5 weekly hours of hands-on research. Current Fall 2025 sections involve 30 students across phage discovery (Honors FBBSI) and bioinformatics (Honors FBBSII) tracks, predominantly freshmen and sophomores.

Bogush actively participates in SEA community events including Phage Discovery Workshops and the annual Symposium, advancing collaborative science education initiatives.
