Michèle Barmoy serves as Associate Professor at Allegany College of Maryland, actively engaged in the Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program since 2019. She instructs undergraduate laboratory courses in phage discovery and genomic analysis across multiple academic terms.
Her research focuses on Microbiology and Phage Genomics, specializing in bacteriophage isolation using Microbacterium foliorum and Arthrobacter globiformis hosts. She integrates Bioinformatics and Evolutionary Science through the SEA-PHAGES curriculum, guiding students in both wet-lab techniques and computational genomic analysis to advance understanding of viral evolution.
Dr. Barmoy has instructed over 100 undergraduate students across 14 course sections between 2019-2025, primarily freshmen and sophomores. She collaborates extensively with colleagues Steven Heninger (bioinformatics focus) and Donna Brunelli (phage discovery), maintaining consistent 2-5 hour weekly laboratory sessions that form the core of Allegany College's participation in the HHMI-funded national research education network.
