Laurie Shannon Meadows serves as an Assistant Professor in the Biology department within the School of STEM at Rowan College at Burlington County (RCBC), where she directs the institution's inaugural Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program.
Her research focuses on microbial genomics and evolutionary biology through hands-on phage discovery, specifically utilizing Arthrobacter globiformis as a host organism. This work bridges classroom instruction with authentic genomic research, emphasizing bacteriophage isolation and characterization within undergraduate education.
Dr. Meadows leads BIO 105-0101 (Fall 2025), RCBC's first phage discovery course, instructing 6 undergraduate students (2 freshmen, 4 sophomores) through 6 weekly hours of laboratory work. As Primary Instructor for this in situ microbiology section, she implements the nationwide SEA-PHAGES curriculum while establishing RCBC's participation in phage genomics research networks.
