Marilina Cesario is a Professor at the School of Arts, English and Languages, Queen's University Belfast. She specializes in medieval English language, manuscripts, and the intersection of science, magic, and literature in Anglo-Saxon and medieval Europe. Her work focuses on topics like weather prognostication, celestial phenomena, and the historical perception of natural disasters.
Education: PhD from Manchester University; former lecturer at Brasenose College, Oxford University. She teaches Old English, Paleography, and Historical Linguistics. As TOEBI Secretary since 2012, she promotes Old English studies.
Research highlights include a Leverhulme Fellowship for a monograph on weather signs in Anglo-Saxon England and a cross-disciplinary APEX Award collaborating with astrophysicist Dr. Pedro Lacerda to link medieval comet records with Planet 9 theories. She also curated the 'Marvelling at the Skies' exhibition at the National Museum of Northern Ireland.
Her projects include studying medieval visions of modern science, water symbolism in Old English poetry, and interdisciplinary elements research. Awards include the British Academy Rising Star Engagement Award and multiple fellowships.
