Martha Bayless is a Professor in the Department of English at the University of Oregon, with affiliations in the Folklore Program, Food Studies, and Medieval Studies. Her research focuses on medieval popular culture, particularly games, magic, humor, and food, with material drawn from Latin, medieval Welsh, and Old/Middle English sources.

Martha's publications span monographs, edited volumes, and peer-reviewed chapters, with a focus on Anglo-Saxon and medieval European traditions. Her work has been recognized with the 2018 Best Essay Prize from the International Society for the Study of Early Medieval England.
