Marika Franklin is a Researcher at the Centre for Workforce Futures within Macquarie University's Australian Institute of Health Innovation. She holds a PhD from La Trobe University (2019) and has prior research experience at the University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, and in the not-for-profit sector. Her work focuses on intersections between sociology and health, particularly how capital shapes health agency and migrant aging. She leads an ARC DP project on migrant aging and wellbeing in Australia, collaborating with Professor Taksa. Franklin is a member of The Australian Sociological Association (TASA).
Research Interests: Chronic condition management, migrant health disparities, healthcare equity, sociological dimensions of aging, and organizational processes in healthcare. Her recent studies explore the 'healthy migrant effect', metastatic breast cancer care, and temporal disconnects in chronic illness management.
Grants & Projects: Current ARC DP project on migrant aging (2023). Prior research includes metastatic breast care nursing roles (2022) and healthcare temporalities (2021).
