Marija Pinterić is a Senior Lecturer at the Ruđer Bošković Institute, affiliated with the Laboratory for Metabolism and Aging under the Division of Molecular Medicine. Her research focuses on molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology, particularly the role of Sirtuin 3 (SIRT3) in aging, oxidative stress, cancer progression, and plant metabolic responses to environmental stimuli.
Education: She earned her Master’s degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Zagreb in 2014, with a thesis analyzing SSB protein genes in Phytoplasma genomes.
Her research spans two major domains: (1) Molecular Mechanisms in Aging and Cancer, including SIRT3-mediated regulation of mitochondrial function, sex-specific responses to oxidative stress, and interactions with estrogen signaling pathways in breast cancer cells; and (2) Plant Biochemistry, investigating phytochemical adaptations in broccoli and Chinese cabbage under temperature stress, linking metabolite profiling to nutritional and bioactive properties.
Recent publications highlight her work on SIRT3’s tumor-suppressive effects under hyperoxia, sex-based metabolic differences in aging, and plant-based antioxidant discovery. She collaborates on interdisciplinary studies involving LC-DAD-MS phytochemical analysis and molecular oncology.
Her laboratory contributions at Ruđer Bošković Institute emphasize metabolic and redox signaling in aging and cancer, with a focus on translational applications of mitochondrial regulators and plant-derived bioactives.
