Marie Edmonds is the Head of the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Cambridge, holding the title of Professor of Volcanology and Petrology. She is also the Ron Oxburgh Fellow in Earth Sciences at Queens’ College. Her research focuses on volcanic processes, magma dynamics, and their environmental impacts, including volcano monitoring, gas emissions, and links to climate and planetary habitability. She leads the Cambridge Volcanology Group and contributes to understanding Earth’s deep carbon cycle and ore deposit formation. Edmonds is a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS).
- Research Interests: Volcanic hazards, magma transport, sulfur cycling, and sustainable resource exploration.
- Affiliations: Queens’ College, Cambridge Volcanology Group.
She actively supervises PhD students and has published extensively on volcanic processes and geochemistry.
