Dr. Ralf Gertisser is Reader in Mineralogy and Petrology at Keele University School of Life Sciences, researching magma dynamics and eruption processes at active volcanoes worldwide. His work combines field volcanology, geochemistry, and quantitative modeling to understand hazards at systems including Merapi, Santorini, and the Aeolian Islands.
Research examines:
- Timescales of magmatic processes
- Pyroclastic density current emplacement
- Volcanic arc magma genesis
- Caldera-forming eruptions
Author of Merapi Volcano: Geology, Eruptive Activity, and Monitoring (2022). Leads volcanology field courses in Italy/Greece. Supervised 8 PhD students in volcanic processes research.
