Marie Edmonds is a Professor of Volcanology and Petrology at the University of Cambridge, UK. She holds additional roles as Vice President of Queens’ College, Director of Research, and Deputy Head of the Earth Sciences Department. Her career includes previous positions such as Reader and Lecturer at Cambridge, and roles at the School of Environmental Sciences, University of East Anglia and the United States Geological Survey.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Volcanology (2002), University of Cambridge
- Thesis: Sulfur and Chlorine Degassing at the Soufriere Hills Volcano, Montserrat
- Bachelor of Arts in Geological Sciences (1997), University of Cambridge (First Class Honors).
Research Interests:
Focus on volcanic processes, including:
- Cycling of volatiles between Earth's mantle and atmosphere
- Role of magmatic volatiles in magma genesis and eruption dynamics
- Volcanic hazards and climate modulation
