She holds a PhD from the University of Sydney and additional qualifications in veterinary science and university teaching. Her research focuses on animal physiology, particularly mineral interactions, calcium homeostasis, and their impacts on livestock production and reproduction. She has secured grants from organizations like DSM Nutritional and Meat & Livestock Australia. Her teaching contributions include developing comparative anatomy resources and leading curriculum redesigns. Dr. Bhanugopan supervises Honours, Masters, and PhD students, and her work extends to global capacity-building via the Pacific Paravet Training project. She is affiliated with the American Physiological Society and Australian Animal Sciences Association.
Education: BVSc (Tamil Nadu University), MVSc (Kerala University), PhD (University of Sydney), GCULT (Charles Sturt University).
Research interests include metabolic disorders in sheep/dairy cows, vitamin D's role in fetal bone development, and mineral supplementation strategies. Her recent work explores grazing impacts on lamb survival and maternal mineral effects on offspring immunity.
Teaching roles: Subject coordinator for Veterinary Physiology, taught Anatomy/Physiology to veterinary and animal science students. Developed online interactive tools for anatomy education.
Grants and collaborations: Principal/co-investigator on projects funded by industry partners, focusing on livestock nutrition, mineral supplementation, and reproductive outcomes.
