Dr. Maricel Santos is Professor and Department Chair of English Language and Literature at San Francisco State University, where she teaches in the MA TESOL program. She holds an EdD from Harvard Graduate School of Education, MA in TESOL from Monterey Institute of International Studies, and BA from Swarthmore College.
Her research investigates socio-cognitive dimensions of language acquisition, particularly examining how adult ESL participation functions as a health-protective factor in immigrant communities. Current NIH-funded collaborations with UCSF explore peer support networks and curricular innovations for beginning-level ESL learners' health literacy development.
