Marianne D’Emidio-Caston, PhD, is a faculty member at Antioch University Santa Barbara (AUSB) with over 20 years of experience as a teacher and administrator in public and private schools. She previously served as Coordinator of the Multiple Subject Credential Program at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), and currently holds leadership roles as Director of Teacher Education and Chair of the Graduate Education and Credential Programs at AUSB since 2000.
Her research focuses on the intersection of affective and cognitive domains in learners, emphasizing confident mathematical understanding, teacher candidates’ identity construction, and pedagogical strategies to foster youth resilience. She has contributed to scholarly communities through leadership roles in the Confluent Education SIG at AERA, the Arts SIG at CCTE, and editorial board service for Teacher Education Quarterly.
She co-authored the book Resilience Education (2001) with Joel H. Brown and Bonnie Benard. Her academic journey includes a BA in Arts in Education from AUSB, dual Masters degrees in Montessori Education and Educational Policy/Administration at UCSB, and a PhD in Confluent Education from UCSB.
