Marianne Copithorne is a Sessional Instructor in Music Theatre Performance at MacEwan University's Department of Theatre. A professional actor for over twenty years, she holds an MFA in Directing (University of Alberta, 2001) and BFA in Acting (University of Alberta, 1982). Her teaching emphasizes Stanislavski fundamentals, text-based character development, and ensemble collaboration.
As former Artistic Director of the Freewill Shakespeare Festival (2009-2018), she champions text-first interpretation. Acting credits include award-winning performances recognized with Elizabeth Sterling Haynes, Betty Mitchell, and Dora Awards. Professional affiliations include Canadian Actors' Equity Association and ACTRA.
