Maria Wiberg

Maria Wiberg is a Clinical Instructor at the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, specifically within the Department of Equine and Small Animal Medicine. She also holds the title of Docent and serves as a supervisor for doctoral students in both the Doctoral Programme in Integrative Life Science and the Doctoral Programme in Clinical Veterinary Medicine.

Her research primarily focuses on veterinary cardiology, with special emphasis on breed-specific cardiac conditions in dogs, particularly dilated cardiomyopathy and ventricular arrhythmias. She has conducted extensive research on exocrine pancreatic insufficiency in dogs and metabolic differences across dog breeds, including lipid and glucose metabolism. Her work often bridges veterinary and human medicine, translating findings from canine genetic studies to human cardiac conditions.

Dr. Wiberg's publication record shows consistent research productivity since 2002, with 55 research outputs including 38 articles, 12 conference contributions, and 4 book chapters. Her recent work (2020-2024) demonstrates a strong focus on genomic approaches to understanding breed-specific disease susceptibilities and metabolic conditions in dogs.
