معرفی
Maria Walsh is a Research Professor in Artists' Moving Image at Chelsea College of Arts, part of the University of the Arts London. Her research focuses on the intersection of moving image practices with feminist, psychoanalytic, and decolonial theories. She co-convenes the Subjectivity & Feminisms research group and has led interdisciplinary projects such as the Performance Dinners series.
Her work critically examines neoliberalism's impact on subjectivity, exploring therapeutic aesthetics, performativity, and reparative museology. Key publications include Therapeutic Aesthetics: Performative Encounters in Moving Image Artworks (2020) and co-edited volumes like Trauma and Repair in the Museum (2022). She serves as Reviews Editor for MIRAJ and has guest-edited special issues on feminist art and psychoanalytic theory.
Walsh’s research also engages with materialist ecology and diasporic art practices, addressing global art systems and postcolonial archives. Her recent work interrogates the role of museums in trauma and repair, blending art criticism with curatorial practice.
As a supervisor, she guides PhD students in expanded lens-based media, emphasizing contextual frameworks of subjectivity and philosophy. Her pedagogy integrates performative methods, fostering collaborative research between theory and practice.
