Dr Mo Throp is a Senior Lecturer at the Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon Colleges of Arts under the University of the Arts London. She leads the CCW Subjectivity and Feminisms research group with Dr Maria Walsh and has held roles including BA Fine Art Course Director at Chelsea College of Arts until 2011. Her work spans artistic practice, curation, and academic research, focusing on gender theory, feminist methodologies, and the interplay between body and media.
Education: BA in Sculpture from St Martin’s College of Art, followed by MA and PhD at Chelsea College of Arts. Currently serves as an AHRC Peer Review College panel member.
Research Interests: Explores fluid gender identities through video installations, reimagining female sexuality beyond psychoanalytic models. Draws heavily from Gilles Deleuze and Luce Irigaray’s theories to investigate non-oppositional gender relations and embodied experiencing through art. Active in curating exhibitions and reinterpreting archival materials through feminist lenses.
Advising: Supervises numerous PhD students in the CCW Graduate School, covering topics like animality in art, female ethnicity in Turkish culture, and resistance strategies in feminist performance. Grant activity includes collaborative projects like the Subjectivity & Feminisms group.
Labs/Teams: Co-leads the CCW Subjectivity and Feminisms research group, which interrogates contemporary art through feminist and poststructuralist frameworks. Engages in exhibitions and publications that challenge traditional binaries in gender and art practice.
