Maria Termini is a Professor of Legal Writing and Co-Director of Legal Research and Writing at Brooklyn Law School, where she also teaches in the externship program. She joined the faculty in 2014. Her expertise spans appellate advocacy, housing law policy, language in legal contexts, and pedagogical strategies for developing lawyering skills.
Professor Termini holds a J.D. from Columbia University School of Law, an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Mississippi, and a B.A. in Mathematics from Smith College. Prior to academia, she practiced law as a litigator in federal and state courts, including roles at the Appeals Division of the New York City Housing Authority and Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP. She previously taught high school mathematics and served as an adjunct professor in education.
Her scholarship focuses on enhancing legal writing and advocacy through interdisciplinary approaches, particularly drawing on mathematical reasoning frameworks. She has published works analyzing connections between legal and mathematical logic, and innovative teaching methods in legal education.
