Mary Claire Davis is a Teaching Associate Professor at the West Virginia University College of Law, specializing in Legal Analysis, Research, and Writing. She holds a J.D. (Order of the Coif) from WVU Law, an M.A. in English from WVU, and a B.A. in English from Roanoke College. Her research focuses on small business legal challenges, including the Paycheck Protection Program's impact on independent contractors. Davis previously clerked for federal judges on the Fourth Circuit and U.S. District Court, practiced appellate and business litigation, and represented clients in SBA PPP appeals. She currently teaches Appellate Advocacy and Federal Judicial Externship courses, and serves on the CJA Appellate and Discretionary Panels for indigent criminal appeals. Her 2024 article in the West Virginia Law Review critiques PPP loan forgiveness policies.
