Maria Rosén serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Education at Stockholm University. She earned her PhD from Uppsala University in 2023 with her thesis "Juridifiering som demokratiseringsprocess? Fallet likabehandling i svensk skola" (Juridification as a process of democratization? The Swedish case of equal treatment).
Her research interests focus on educational philosophical and didactical issues concerning the ethical and political dimensions of democracy and education. She has particular interest in the ambivalences, paradoxes, and conflicts inherent in democratic values as they manifest in classroom settings and educational policy contexts. Her work examines how hurtful speech and formal/informal agreements about expression play out in educational public spaces.
Rosén's research, primarily inspired by post-structuralist perspectives and continental philosophy, contributes significantly to the field of juridification as a democratization process in education. Her work analyzes the Swedish political initiative to democratize education through juridification by introducing legal protections against discrimination and degrading treatment.
She is affiliated with two research groups at Stockholm University: Philosophical and Critical Studies in Education and Leadership, Improvement and Organization of Schools (SOUL). Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on the intersection of law, democracy, and educational practice.
