Research Focus
Lundström specializes in democratic theory, examining tensions between "liberal" and "illiberal" democratic practices while exploring constitutional theory and theories of justice. His scholarship critically analyzes procedural democracy, value relativism, and epistemic foundations of democratic decision-making. He investigates multiculturalism and nationalism through the lens of Swedish political context, addressing how ethnic diversity impacts equality policies and national identity formation. His work consistently bridges theoretical political philosophy with contemporary European democratic challenges.
Publication Evolution
Over 27 years of publication activity, Lundström demonstrates sustained engagement with democracy's philosophical foundations. Early work (1995-2000) established his focus on Swedish constitutionalism and gender equality, evolving into deeper examinations of democratic epistemology post-2009. Recent publications (2020-2022) critically engage with populism, liberal nationalism, and the erosion of democratic norms, reflecting contemporary political anxieties. A persistent thread connects his analysis of diversity-management in democracies, consistently linking theoretical frameworks to Swedish and European political realities without compromising philosophical rigor.
