Maria Nyholm is Senior Lecturer in Public Health Sciences at Kristianstad University, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Public Health Sciences. Her work integrates public health problem identification, analysis, implementation, and evaluation, with a strong focus on children and youth.
Research Interests
- Social inequalities and their impact on child and adolescent health and upbringing
- Children’s health assets and participation, including in sports and society
- Implementation processes of health-promoting interventions, such as dietary advice and physical activity prescriptions
- UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and its implementation in schools
- Obesity and overweight risk factors in rural adult populations
Across her 17 peer-reviewed publications, Nyholm’s scholarship consistently addresses how social determinants shape health behaviors and outcomes among young people, evaluates community-based interventions, and advances methodological rigor through systematic and scoping reviews. Her collaborative projects with English colleagues and local Swedish organizations highlight an international and intersectoral approach.
