Dr. Bixio's research primarily focuses on three interconnected domains: Intellectual Property Law, Industrial Property Law, and Cultural Heritage Law. Within Intellectual Property Law, she examines copyright and competition law interactions, the reform of the digital single market, collective management systems, music industry business models, digital markets and geoblocking, access to protected works, and new regimes of exceptions and limitations. Her Industrial Property Law research addresses trademarks, trade secrets, and corporate web reputation. In Cultural Heritage Law, she investigates protection of access to archaeological data, bibliographic and archival heritage, and restoration and valorization processes. Her work demonstrates a consistent thread of analyzing how legal frameworks adapt to technological innovation while balancing competing interests of creators, businesses, and the public.
Analysis of Dr. Bixio's publication record reveals a strong focus on the evolving landscape of intellectual property in the digital age. Her recent work particularly emphasizes the challenges of implementing EU copyright directives, the relationship between copyright and competition law, and the protection of cultural heritage in digital environments. She has made significant contributions to understanding collective management systems, geo-blocking regulations, and the legal challenges posed by new business models in the music industry. Her interdisciplinary approach connects legal theory with practical applications across multiple sectors including cultural institutions, digital platforms, and creative industries.
Dr. Bixio has held significant advisory roles, including serving as an external consultant to Service II of the Directorate-General for Libraries and Copyright of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism under the CREDA-MiBACT Agreement. She has been appointed as an expert to numerous special committees established by the Permanent Advisory Committee for Copyright, demonstrating her recognized expertise in copyright matters.
