Prof. Stef van Gompel is a Full Professor of Intellectual Property at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, affiliated with the Faculty of Law's Dutch Private Law department. He holds concurrent roles in the Kooijmans Institute and Law, Markets and Behavior. His primary research focuses on intellectual property law, with particular expertise in national and international copyright law, digital legal practices, and cultural heritage protection. He actively participates in legal collaborations across countries and maintains a strong presence in academic and societal engagements.
Van Gompel’s ancillary roles include serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Dutch copyright journal Auteursrecht, Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Plagiarism (Buma/Stemra), Board Member of Stichting Reprorecht, and President of the Dutch AIPPI chapter.
