Prof. Maria Koinova is a Professor of International Relations at the University of Warwick's Politics and International Studies Department. She holds a Ph.D. from the European University Institute and has held academic positions at Harvard, Cornell, Dartmouth, and others. Her research focuses on diaspora politics, ethnonational conflicts, and post-conflict reconstruction, particularly in the EU's neighborhood and post-Soviet regions. She leads major grants including the ERC-funded 'Diasporas and Contested Sovereignty' and ESRC-IAA projects on Ukrainian diaspora engagement. Her work bridges academia and policy, collaborating with OSCE-ODIHR and ICMPD.

Awards include the prestigious ERC Starting Grant (2012–2017) and a Netherlands Institute for Advanced Studies Fellowship. Her teaching spans international security, nationalism, and field research methodologies.
