Professor Maria Hayward is a leading scholar in early modern history, specializing in textiles, court culture, and material culture. She serves as Head of the History Department at the University of Southampton, having previously held roles such as Director of the AHRC Research Centre for Textile Conservation and Studies (2004-2007). Her research focuses on Tudor and Stuart periods, particularly the interplay between clothing, power, and identity. She has authored award-winning works like Stuart Style: Monarchy, Dress and the Scottish Male Elite (2020) and is currently writing a book on Catherine of Braganza.
