Maria Arvidsson is an Associate Professor at Linköping University’s Department of Behavioural Sciences and Learning (IBL), within the Faculty of Educational Sciences. She holds a dual role as researcher and educator, focusing on children’s right to education and obligations related to compulsory schooling from historical and contemporary perspectives. Her recent work explores innovative uses of technology like the AV1-robot to support students with problematic school absenteeism, examining how digital participation impacts reintegration into physical classrooms.
Her teaching spans the Primary Teacher Program, Special Education Program, and Master’s Program in Educational Work, emphasizing democracy, human rights, and sustainable development in education. Supervision activities include guiding degree projects across preschool, primary, and special education programs.
Research interests center on educational equity, the evolution of compulsory schooling frameworks, and the intersection of technology with student engagement. Key themes include policy analysis of school attendance obligations, teacher instructional design challenges in hybrid learning environments, and the psychosocial effects of digital participation on student-school connections.
Publications span educational policy analysis to historical studies of advertising’s societal impacts, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach. Current work investigates how digital tools can bridge gaps for marginalized students while maintaining educational continuity.
