Mari Bacquin is a Senior Lecturer and Manager of Research and Research Education at French Studies within the Centre for Languages and Literature at Lund University. She holds a prominent position in the academic structure, serving on the Board of Section 3 at the Centre for Languages and Literature while managing research activities and educational programs in French studies.
Her educational background includes studies at the Sorbonne in France, followed by doctoral work completed at Lund University. She previously held a five-year research position at The Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities, funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, focusing on medieval languages and literature with emphasis on Romance languages.
Mari Bacquin's research centers on French medieval philology examined through linguistic, literary, and historical perspectives. She specializes in medieval French texts, particularly the romance Théséus de Cologne, and has expanded her work to include 18th century French literature, rare book studies, and translation between French, Danish, and Swedish. Her scholarly approach combines textual criticism with cultural and historical analysis, revealing how narratives transform across time and geographical boundaries.
Her 25+ publications demonstrate consistent scholarly output across multiple formats including monographs, critical editions, journal articles, and conference proceedings. The research trends show progression from medieval textual studies toward broader cultural analysis, with recent work focusing on rare French manuscripts preserved in Swedish collections and cross-cultural narratives between Scandinavia and France. Her projects increasingly incorporate interdisciplinary approaches spanning literary studies, linguistics, and cultural history.
