Anders Bengtsson is a Professor in French Linguistics at the Department of Romance Studies and Classics, Stockholm University, since 2015. His research bridges Romance linguistics with digital philology, focusing on historical language analysis and technological advancements in philological studies.
- Education: Bachelors in French and Latin (Lund University, 1986), Ph.D. in French (Lund University, 1996)
- Positions: Research Fellow at Swedish Research Council (1998-2004), Associate Professor in French (2006)
He leads the DigPhil initiative, integrating historical language studies with language technology. Active in international academic networks such as AIEMF, Société de Linguistique Romane, and GEHLF, his work emphasizes medieval and early modern Romance language evolution.
As Head of Department (2020-2022), he supervised Bachelor’s and Master’s theses in language history, teaching foundational courses like Förberedande kurs and advanced seminars on Franska språket genom seklerna. His Romance Linguistics research group explores digital methodologies for analyzing linguistic variation in French and other Romance languages.
