Margarida Garcia is a Professor in the Faculty of Law (Civil Law Section) and Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ottawa. She also directs the Leadership Academy at the University of Ottawa and holds affiliations in Criminology. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Sociology (2010), M.A. in Criminology (2002), and legal training from the University of Lisbon.

Research focuses on leadership in legal reform, criminal law-human rights intersections, institutional change, and epistemological challenges in legal research. She emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration between law, social sciences, and practical legal practice to foster innovation in multicultural contexts.
Key publications include Les Cahiers de Droit (2020) on law, alienation, and creativity. Awards include the Trudeau Foundation Scholarship and Best Thesis Award. She co-edited books on penal rationality and law reform, and her grants include SSHRC and Law Foundation of Ontario support.
