Margaret Pappano is an Associate Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at Queen's University, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Science. She holds a PhD from Columbia University and an MA from Sussex University. Her research focuses on medieval literature in England and France, including drama, religious texts, women’s writing, and travel literature, with expertise in English, French, and Latin texts of the late Middle Ages. She explores paraliturgical performance, medieval drama traditions, and romance, alongside interests in animal studies and contemporary Muslim literatures.
Her teaching includes courses on medieval literatures and cultures, premodern gender and sexuality, and drama and devotional culture. She co-authored *The Civic Cycles: Artisan Drama and Identity in Premodern England* (winner of the David Bevington Award) and co-edited volumes on premodern artisan culture and Muslim mothering. Cross-appointed to Cultural Studies in the School of Graduate Studies, she also examines interreligious relations in Mediterranean contexts and the intersection of medieval and modern global literatures.
Her current projects address medieval travel literature and ethnography, integrating Jewish, Christian, and Muslim traditions. She advocates for animal welfare through the lens of medieval studies and explores expanding contemporary Muslim literatures in English.
